To everyone who enjoys a bit of good news, have a look at www.goodnewsnetwork.org. they had the idea long before I did and they run a professional site with international good news.
I went to the fruit and vegie market this am and bought the most beautiful onions (YES onions!), shining purple skins which delighted the eye as well as the taste buds. Lovely red capsicums and green spring onions, yellow capsicums, golden peaches, red nectarines and a beautiful hot pink Dragon Fruit - my shopping bag contained a rainbow. I am so grateful for the eyes to see this magnificence, the nose to enjoy the aromas, the appetite to appreciate the flavours and the effort of so many people who produced this cornucopia, the planters, the pickers, the packers, the transporters the sellers, the shop assistants. So many people worked hard to produce my rainbow. Aren’t I lucky to have all this - every day!
I realise this may seem like ‘pollyanna’ stuff to all you spohisticates out there, but there is so much to enjoy in the everyday world. Wealth and power might be seductive, but the small daily things of life, truly appreciated, are much more satisfying. Welcome to my world………………………..
Outside my front door I have a planter box of Impatiens. I planted the seeds only weeks ago, and now I have flowers of many lovely colours. If we keep planting little seeds of Good News who knows what may blossom? Today’s good news is that this weekend I have very proudly watched my grandson Ben push himself to his limit in an attempt to achieve a sporting goal. He, and the other Judo exponents, boys and girls gave it all they had, to the point of shaking and tears and still they persevered. These young people not only competed against each other, but while doing so urged each other on and not to give up. Sportsmanship is alive and well!
A gold star for the youth of today - they are wonderful.
Great Job
As a retired local, I make a lot of use of the Carnegie branch library and I’d like to congratulate everyone concerned for the wonderful service offered. The surroundings are very pleasant, The staff so friendly and helpful and the choice of books and materials so wide. We really are very lucky. I have only one complaint - the books are too good, in that I am so tempted to go and buy my own copy of so many, which is becoming expensive!
Take a bow, librarians! You are doing a great job.
I want to hear some GOOD NEWS!! I am so tired of the ongoing parade of bad news concerning the environment, the current generation of youth, the poisons we ingest with our daily food, the state of the water, the animal species in danger of extinction, the dangerous people who belong to cultural groups different from the mainstream, the shortcomings of the government, healthcare and educational systems, It just goes on and on and on and on. And when there is not enough of this bilge to fill the available time between ‘commercials’ they dredge up bad news from the past and regurgitate those problems ! I PROTEST!!!
Will anyone out there who has something good happening in their life please share the GOOD NEWS. I don’t care how trivial you think your good news is, share it. Here’s some of mine to start with.
Today I made 2 new friends.
This morning I woke up alive with all my body parts in working order. I had plenty to eat and drink all day.
I have a lovely house to live in and a wonderful husband to share it with.
I have a sister who is my very best friend - we don’t always see eye to eye, but that doesn’t matter - we are still best friends.
My brother in law fixes things for me - the first time I ask.
I have three happy, healthy children and ditto six grandchildren.
My ginger lillies are starting to bloom.
My nephew starts school this week, and I was invited to part of that important day.
The meal I cooked tonight turned out very successfully.
Life will be so much more enjoyable if we learn to focus on what is going right, both on the small scale and the wider picture of public life. Whatever you good news is, share it. this poor world needs it to achieve some balance.
